Method acting, isn’t that when actors go out and beyond to become their character to the point where they will send dead pigs to their costars?
Well, yes and no. This might seem a bit extreme to some, but hear me out.

Identity vs. Essence
I first heard about the concept of Identity vs. Essence from Michael Hauge’s “Six Stage Plot Structure”. It’s literally about characters building an identity for themselves in order to survive, like a mask, but their true selves, their essence, cannot shine until they let this identity go. In the course of the story, characters undergo a change, they will transform from their Identity to their Essence.
